Working with couples is one of the most rewarding, and one of the most complex, experiences in the therapy room. Unlike individual therapy, where you hold space for one person’s inner world, couples therapy asks you to hold space for two. Two belief systems. Two communication styles. Two histories. And two very different ideas about what love is supposed to look and feel like. Are you wondering how to choose a therapist? I have found that one major factor stands out above all others: the connection between the therapist and the client. While theoretical approaches matter, therapy is ultimately a human relationship.

Many professionals struggle with emotional regulation at work without realizing that the source isn’t work at all. However, this often contradicts our culture, and that is where the complexity lies: our religion tells us to do one thing, but our culture tells us to do another. It’s hard to maintain that balance. While Buddhism is practiced and adhered to, it still doesn’t relieve us of those mental health struggles as one might think.

Big transitions can often bring both growth and stress to relationships, even when that change is something you’ve been wanting. It can challenge the way you and your partner communicate, connect, and support one another.
